Lia Tarachansky: From Settler to Peace Advocate
A new generation of Israeli journalists and historians sparked a nation-wide debate about Israel’s biggest taboo – what happened in 1948 to the Palestinians as Israel was created.
Lia Tarachansky is an Israeli journalist and filmmaker. Her upcoming film, Seven Deadly Myths, explores Israel’s national amnesia about its own history. In starting a collective discussion about Israel’s past, the film helps set the groundwork for reconciliation and a just resolution.
Tarachansky will be speaking about her journey uncovering this history and profiling the movement that fights to challenge the silence around it. She will be revealing clips of her film that tells the story of 1948 veterans and modern-day settlers, shining a light into the heart of the very center and root of the conflict.
Biography
Lia Tarachansky grew up on an Israeli settlement in the heart of the West Bank. She will talk about “crossing the wall of denial” that divides Jews and Palestinians, to become a dedicated voice for peace. She has produced more than 150 video reports, focusing on the context behind the news. Her work has appeared on The Real News, USA Today, The Dominion, and Al Jazeera.
