NCCAR Op-Ed on the Palestinian State UN Vote
August 31st, 2011 (Ottawa): The National Council on Canada Arab Relations (NCCAR) Secretary Peter Larson published an Op-Ed article in Embassy Magazine. In the article, Mr. Larson presents arguments on why the Canadian government should vote in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state in the upcoming United Nations (UN) General Assembly meeting taking place September 20th- 22nd 2011.
Here’s an excerpt from the article:
Canada should vote for Palestinian recognition at the UN
But the recognition of Palestine as a full member state would not ‘replace’ negotiations.
“Canada should support a resolution recognizing Palestine if one is presented at the United Nations this September.
According to recent newspaper reports, Canada has already decided to vote against a Palestinian effort to win UN recognition.
I hope this is not true.
Israeli and American diplomats have been arguing strongly that the Israel/Palestine issue should be resolved through direct negotiations between the two parties rather than by bringing it to the United Nations. “
