NCCAR’s parliamentary internship was one of the best experiences of my life. It gave me a broader perspective on Canadian and global politics. It allowed me to witness the different processes in the government system and have a hands-on experience of the different situations present in Canada.

During my internship placement at MP Claude Gravelle’s office I learned many things about the Canadian Political system and was able to experience numerous events such as committee meetings, question period, and a wide range of meetings with other MPs, companies and even constituents. Being in an office environment is something I really like and surely this internship fulfilled that. I wrote letters to Ministers about issues concerning constituents, which allowed me to improve my written and verbal communication skills. My favourite part of this internship was attending question period and attending the NDP Stornoway BBQ, where I had the opportunity to meet Thomas Mulcair in person. This internship helped me understand the dynamics of politics in Canada.

Working with the NDP and in particular the staff in the office helped me experience the work that I wish to pursue in the future. It allowed me to have new goals in my career and work to achieve them. I met lots of MPs and staff from different offices who were all very welcoming and friendly. I was able to offer my perspective on many issues, which I felt, was very encouraging because the situations were real and my opinion was important too.

I want to thank NCCAR for organizing this amazing program for University students because surely it is a successful and beneficial program to be a part of. It helped me learn things that being in a classroom setting will never teach. In addition, I was offered a part-time job at Mr. Gravelle’s office. I am truly grateful for this great opportunity that NCCAR provided for me.
