NCCAR comments on UNESCO ‘s admission of Palestine
November 3rd, 2011 (Ottawa): The National Council on Canada Arab Relations (NCCAR) Operations Adviser Imad Al-Sukkari commented on UNESCO’s latest decision to admit Palestine as a member state into its organization. See Excerpt from the Montreal Gazette below:
A spokesman for the National Council on Canada-Arab Relations said UNESCO’s inclusion of the Palestinians is a step toward statehood.
Imad Al-Sukkari said decision does have serious implications for UNESCO’s budget, but it showed the body is willing to make a stand in Palestine’s ongoing fight for statehood.
“There’s always the tension between the finance and the symbolic side of things,” Al-Sukkari said. “I think that’s what UNESCO is seeing right now.
