Synopsis

Beirut in the 1970s. Karim, a young Muslim boy, lives with his family in the Sanayeh district of the city, in a traditional building, built by his grandfather in the 1920s. One day, the residents have a meeting to discuss maintenance problems. Restoration work is needed, but they cannot agree on what colour to paint its facade. Their meeting is disrupted by the sounds of the approaching civil war… In the 90s, the fighting is over. A sense of hope pervades. Karim, now grown up, is back from the US. There is new construction everywhere. He tries to make sense of a city he no longer recognizes.
