Hatim Zaghloul
Dr.
Hatim Zaghloul is a well-known Calgary businessman and was labeled by Maclean's
Magazine in July 2000 as being a "great Canadian". His dedication and
involvement with the Arab and Muslim communities in Calgary is one of the
reasons he was elected chairman of the Muslim Council of Calgary (MCC), which is
the body governing the activities of two other organizations - Muslim
Association of Calgary (MAC) and the Muslim Community Foundation of Calgary (MCFC).
As CEO and co-founder of Wi-LAN Inc, Dr.
Hatim Zaghloul has lead Wi-LAN to become the leader in the design, development
and global distribution of high-speed wireless data communication products and
technology. Wi-LAN was ranked number four in the 2001 PROFIT 100.
Dr. Zaghloul obtained
his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, in
1979, and his M.Sc. degree in physics from the University of Calgary, Alberta,
Canada, in 1985. From 1981 to 1984, he worked as an Oil Well Logging Engineer
for Schlumberger Wireline Services in Europe and the Middle East. Since June
1989, he has been working for the Research and Development Department of AGT
Limited. Dr. Zaghloul then completed his Ph.D. in physics from the
University of Calgary and is now involved with a number of technology companies
in Calgary.
